Hot Sauce of the Week

Sunrise Grocery Super Hot Whiskey Hot Sauce- ok, the name is long and redundant but the sauce is pretty awesome. Habanero, jalapeno, cayenne and Jack Daniels. Thick consistency, good flavor and adequate heat. Made locally in the area of GA where I found it near the lunch table on the road to NC.

Also need to send a huge thank you to my wife's pal Sara. She sent a care package to the house that included some New Mexican hot sauces for me, Guatemalan worry dolls for my daughters and a pink scarf to my mother, a breast cancer survivor. Awesome, we thank you.

BuRP 2012

BuRP 2012- went up through Atlanta and ran the interstate until it ended and serpentine roads began and wound tight through mountain passes. Take your eyes off the road doom, switchback scares and hard part dragging madness. Ended up in Maggie Valley for year eleven with old friends swapping lies, laughing and catching up.
Day two- rode more craziness to Helen, GA only to find my favorite lunch spot closed. Ate elsewhere and wandered, not much else has changed. Wall to wall tourist trappings but still killer people watching and fun ways to kill time. Hit two spots of rain on the way back in and one of hail...which sucks at 60mph. I cure the pain with local micro brews.
Day three- more scenic byways and mountain road greatness into Hot Springs. One guy almost bites it in a corner and when we stop, we see cord showing on his rear tire. Phone calls for a trailer and a search for a tire and the rest of us are back on the road. I end up in front despite having no clue where we are going. I blow a couple turns but somehow we end up back home. I make my annual pilgrimage to see Crazy Bob. He's still Crazy...I procure another six pack and proceed drink it and the remainder of the micro fridge dry.
Day three- sleep in, eat leftover pizza and down the warm, half beer on the hotel nightstand. Pack, plan the route home, load up, say goodbye and hit it. Six hours, four gas stops and 340 miles later and I pull into the driveway. Next year is already calling me...

Hot Sauce of the Week

Melinda's XXXta Hot Sauce-imported from Costa Rica, an excellent habanero sauce. Adds great heat and taste, this one will go fast. Interesting flavors at play, including a hint of lime. Great stuff.

Hot Sauce of the Week

Ass In The Tub Hot Sauce-not bad, a cayenne based sauce with no other standout ingredients. On its own it has some burn but I really had to heap it onto food to get anything out of it. Didn't deliver on the promise of being as hot as it gets or burning on the way out. I'll use this one on dishes with a narrow flavor profile, anything complex and it just gets lost.

Hot Sauce of the Week

Rhode Island Red-I am a big fan of any sauce that you can look at and see real ingredients. This one is full of vegetables and it shows in the chunky consistency: tomato skin, pepper bits and seeds. This one has no less than three peppers and has some heat to it. There are some other great flavors at play here, mustard seed and tumeric. This one won't last long.

If you've been paying attention to these posts, you'll notice the backdrop is different. This sauce was a very thoughtful birthday gift. Special thanks to Josh and Kellet for bringing this one back from RI.
You guys are awesome, my inner coffee addict and hot sauce fanatic thank you.

Contest

Ok folks, contest time again. I've got some stuff around the house that needs gone. Think more like wearables and nick-nacs and less like gold coins and jewelry. Basically I am going to throw a bunch of stuff from the house in a box and ship it to the winner. It won't all be crap, I promise to throw some stuff of value in.

All you have to do is leave a comment below with your favorite hot sauce. Yep, its that easy. And don't worry, all you light in the loafer folks who don't like spicy can enter with a comment that reads "Yep, I'm a pansy." One entry per person, US residents only. Any comments must be posted by 12:01am Friday August 10th. I'll draw a name at random and announce the winner on that day's Hot Sauce of the Week post and I'll be in touch to get your shipping address. Good luck!
