Mailbag

Awhile back I ordered a shirt from Deathtraps MC. For whatever reason, the wrong shirt was sent. When I brought it to their attention, they agreed to send the right shirt, no questions asked, and did not want me to send back the wrong shirt. The correct order arrived with some stickers and a free koozie.
I appreciate stand up people, people who do what they say are going to do. A couple times recently I held up my end of the bargain and never got what was agreed from the other end. Things like this=sucks.
Also got this key chain from Iron Vaquero. Check out that stationary, it's pretty badass.
Thanks man, very much appreciated. It will be put to good use.

So a bass player walks into a bar...

and ends up on stage!
Greg, the bassist for the band Sexy Tractor, is a friend and riding buddy. I actually sold him that bovine bass.
Thank you guys for asking me to sit in, it was great being on stage playing the old bass again.

Hot Sauce of the Week

Blair's After Death Sauce- holy Hell, this stuff is hot! If your taste buds need to be punished and you want to experience some serious heat, grab a bottle of this. Good flavor too though you might not be able to taste it after the first few seconds. The label says to use sparingly...this is good advice.

Next month, we are taking this thing south of the border...

Gear-Odds and Ends

Bungee cords. The three black ones go around the pack, the net goes around again for extra security, the red ones go on the atlas bag and the plaid one goes on whatever. It's been with me on both my big cross country trips so it kind of just has to go. Call it superstition...
This bag and the one below go in the exterior pocket for quick access if I need them on the road.
In this one: kleenex, Goody's powder and Excedrin
And this one: sunscreen, chap stick, hand sanitizer and bug spray.
A few emergency items: Hot Hands (thanks Joshua), a space blanket, duct tape, paracord, matches and striker and a glow stick (in case a rave breaks out). These are in the larger outer pocket.

The other thing I carry is food, usually a couple cans and dry items. Soups, Beef Stew, Chili and similar canned goods are all good because they are easy to cook and usually available at a convenience store. Beanie Weenies are a staple since they are pretty decent cold if I don't feel like getting out the stove, waiting on the fire, or just want food immediately. Jerky and trail mix also do good. I also keep an aluminum water bottle in one of the side mesh pockets of my pack.

Can I kick it?

I aims to please! As requested, photos of my kick pedal. This is what an afternoon, a leftover shift knob and boredom gets you.
The kicker points cover combo. I told you...goofy. I might top it off by painting the tank like a clown car and mounting a speaker to blare the music you always hear coming from an ice cream truck.
Here are a couple other pedals I have around. Decisions, decisions...

Stuff

Take-offs, swap outs and pieces collected from my and others bikes. I'm usually pretty good about keeping clean and getting rid of parts I won't use but there are some items that have been here forever and need to go. Ebay might be seeing a lot of this junk soon.
The majority of this stuff came off my Sportster. The plastic shroud from under the tank is the saddest...wtf were they thinking?

Bonus Points

Out with the old, in with the new. Donated the points cover on my shovel to a buddy who has a matching derby cover.
Meanwhile I am  running the points cover off my sporty. Upside down, of course...I heard that's what the cool kids do. This makes me laugh for several reasons. Between this and the kick pedal I am currently sporting, this bike is f'ing goofy.

Swap Meet?

I try to support events in the area. Some are big and enticing enough to make mandatory. Others, like this one, are great for a Saturday if you have a little time to kill.
I had never heard of Terry's Two Wheel until I saw the event mentioned online. Didn't really have a chance to check it out or talk to anyone who worked there or knew much about it. I did talk to someone who said their hours were inconsistent, never a good business practice.
Frog Toggs, cheap saddlebags and sportbike gear..everything was moved inside once the rain started. It fit with room to spare. 58 degrees and wet, not the best day for riding. I was soaked when I got home.

I didn't see more than fifteen bikes the whole time I was there. This was the best the parking lot had to offer...
I guess every event has to start somewhere. I caught up with a couple guys I know and the red beans and rice was good...so not a total waste.

Engraving...sort of.

Decided to "engrave" my new bottle opener. Thank God for Dad's old cheapo handheld engraver...
Didn't take a "before" picture so you get the other side instead.
Laid the letters out in Sharpie and five minutes later, Bob's your Mother's Brother.
Scrubbed it with some pencil lead and wiped off the excess so it doesn't pop so much.
Quick and easy but I dig it...

Hot Sauce of the Week

Texas Pete-this one is rather middle of the road. Sure, its got some flavor and spice but it also just seems a bit muddled. Nothing stands out so everything just falls to the wayside. Don't get me wrong, I'll certainly use it if it is the only option but it would never be my first choice. The exception to this rule is on the road, as it and Tabasco are available in travel sizes.

Gear-Tent

This is an old Ozark Trail tent. It was gifted to me by an old riding buddy who was upgrading to something smaller and lighter.

I keep it in a old camping chair bag which should give you an idea about its size. It is a great tent and comfortably sleeps two but the size keeps me from using it too often on bike trips. It spends most of its time packed up or on loan.

Super simple, four pieces make for easy set up and take down: tent, poles, rain-fly and ground stakes. One you get used to how it all goes together, its a breeze. Again, most of my camping in done in a hammock and I am glad to have this one for family trips. I would be open to the right tent if it was small, light and comfortable enough.

Helmet Progress/Experiment

So my buddy Nick posted some time ago about rattle-can glitter paint and I got curious. Picked up a can last week to try it out on what is more or less a throw-away piece: my shitty German novelty helmet. I had already repainted the base flat black and found the glitter paint so there went nothing...
The paint, $8 at a local hobby shop. The first can was junk, 30 seconds of good use before the paint went away and nothing but propellant and adhesive came out. No questions asked exchange and #2 worked much better.

The result so far, darker than I expected but I think the flat black base coat is to blame. If you bought yourself one of those red HD '72s that have been getting coverage all over the place, this would be the paint color for you! Needs one more spray in a couple spots and should be good to go.

Overspray is a huge issue with this paint. Even with the cardboard, it got all over everything. The patio table I put the cardboard on now looks like it spent a late night in a strip club. Thankfully I have enough of the flat black left to fix it...

Once that coat is done, I am going to add a little more paint and try my hand at a reline. There are several tutorials out there, seems pretty easy (famous last words).
