Hot Sauce of the Week

Louisiana Jalapeno Hot Sauce-a basic but excellent sauce. I like the flavor of jalapeno so this was a no-brainer. Only three ingredients...awesome. If you want something with a great taste and not too much heat, this is it. Simple, cheap and tasty.

Coco-Bacon Dynamite

So I thought it would be a good idea to combine the flavors of sweet, salt and spice all in one place. The result is these little candies the wife and I have dubbed Coco-Bacon Dynamite. The chocolate hits first followed close by the bacon and after you swallow, the spice sneaks up on you. These aren't for the faint of heart and could be good for unsuspecting enemies...if you didn't want to eat them all yourself. They are seriously awesome. After a test run with cheap ingredients, we bought high quality chocolate and bacon and made this batch. I can see these becoming a new holiday tradition.

Ferry

Taken on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry on the road home from Canada several summers ago, by far one of the coolest parts of our trip. The ferry ride was a little more than an hour long and when we unloaded, we were less than 5 minutes from Cape Henlopen State Park where we stayed the night, camping and sleeping on the sand. The ranger was a super nice guy who drove a Corvette and also rode. After his shift, he came and found us and shot the breeze for a couple hours. He had lost a daughter to addiction and come out of retirement for this job just to keep himself occupied and his mind off his loss. We drank beer until very late into the night at which point he said his goodbyes and we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the nearby waves.

Hot Sauce of the Week

Loco Lito's Slocomb Tomato Mayhem-too bad this was just a small, sample bottle. This stuff is awesome: organic tomato sweetness and the heat of the ghost pepper. Seriously, the two sauces I got from Lito's were killer. Lots of flavor and plenty of heat, hard to go wrong when both of those profiles are outstanding and they are paired together so well. Great stuff...check them out here.

Rolling on the River

The cold weather reminded me of this picture and the first ride I did with some of the Bama Rides crew. We hit some of my favorite local spots and some new roads I had never seen before. I was never much for taking a street bike onto dirt or gravel roads but it seems to happen a lot when I get out with them.

I don't stop riding in cold weather, I just usually don't ride as often or as far. I have a lot I can work on in the garage to keep me occupied including sorting out the Shovel (long overdue) and starting a cosmetic makeover on the Sporty. It will be interesting to see what the winter brings.

Civilian

From Spyderco's website:
"In the 1990s Spyderco was approached by a specialized branch of U.S. law enforcement about making a knife for their undercover agents. These plain-clothes LEOs found themselves in situations where they often could not carry a firearm but carrying a knife was not a problem. Most had no formal training in self-defense tactics or MBC but as a last resort could use a blade to protect or extricate themselves from a life-threatening situation. This was how the Civilian model came to be.

The Civilian has a patented reverse "S" blade that's intended to be used like an oversized claw. The tip is ground to an ultra-thin profile. Deeply curved and full at the belly, the VG-10 ground blade excels in slicing and is available fully SpyderEdged. Because of its distinctly specialized features it is not intended or designed for general utility or everyday use. Curved in all the right places for ergonomic use and retention of the knife, the handle is black G-10. Mounted for tip-down carry with a custom curved black clip, the knife rides deeply and unobtrusively in a pocket. One of the most specialized CLIPITS in the Spyderco line-up, the Civilian is available in limited quantities."

I've had this mine since about '95. They've changed the handle color since then as well as the clip design.  Great knife and sharp as hell. I never carry this one though, it's just collecting dust in the knife safe.

Hot Sauce of the Week

So last month was all Alabama Hot Sauces...but I still have a couple left to throw out there. This one is awesome because it is not for public consumption and was kind of a test run.

Smokin' Davis' Experiment #1-I was a little skeptical when I first tried this. I test each sauce on it's own before trying it on food and by itself, this one wasn't great. I pressed on and doused my lunch in it. It does much better when it is on something. The spice is forgiving and the other main flavor is a sharp tang. There are only two ingredients in this sauce which I love. It really shows that you can have killer flavor with just the basics. Thanks and keep up the good work buddy, you are welcome to use me as your crash test dummy any time.

Davis has a podcast that was mostly politics but now that the election is over, it is kind of just...well it is kind of just anything goes. Check him out here.

The Wonder Shovel

Nick came by last week for lunch and to drop off some parts. Something about us getting together that always leads to the departure of sobriety...good seeing you buddy and thanks for the risers. Hope you enjoyed the returned parts...haha.

Do Good, Win Stuff.

I met Walter of Kickstart Cycle Supply at the Dixie Roundup this year. We BS'd for a couple minutes one morning, super nice guy. He's holding a contest in which you could win some killer stuff. The catch?
Read about it here.
