Uncle CC's Serrano-Uncle CC can do no wrong! According to him, people are consuming this stuff almost faster than he can make it and with good reason. A little heat, plenty of tang and a hint of smoke...this sauce is boss! If you live in Birmingham, you like hot sauce and you don't have a bottle of this in your kitchen then I got nothing for you. Killer sauce from a stand-up guy made locally. No excuses, click here, drop him a line and get yourself a bottle!

JBMFThttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15700360014302536945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1984100002006084035.post-80537176307054832212014-06-26T06:00:00.000-05:002014-06-26T06:00:07.461-05:00Godspeed

Cayenne Hot Drops-just like the name suggests, it's your basic cayenne pepper sauce. That said, there's a reason thousands of companies make a sauce like this. The simplicity is beautiful and the heat, vinegar and salt combination just works. This is a good one, the mix is just right and it is versatile and goes good on damn near anything. Four ingredients, gotta love that. 0 calories/tsp
Beano's Roasted Chipotle Deli Bistro Sauce- ok, this one isn't technically a hot sauce but it was gifted to me to review and I am always game to try something different. With a creamy flavor and consistency right out of the gate, spice is merely an afterthought. That said, the chipotle is a nice pairing and it works well. As kind of a spicy mayo or dipping sauce, it was at home in a variety of situations: on an omelet, a sandwich or with sausage. Good stuff, if you see it and want something out of the ordinary give it a spin. 100 calories/tbsp (not a typo)
Alabama Wild Fire Extra Extra Hot-if you are a fan of pepper and vinegar sauces but you want something hotter, you'll like this one. It nails that flavor combination but outside of that, it doesn't have much else to offer. Good sauce, not great. You could do much worse but a few more ingredients and it could do a lot more. 3 cal/tspJBMFThttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15700360014302536945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1984100002006084035.post-16904140955848281582014-06-05T06:00:00.000-05:002014-06-05T06:00:00.996-05:00Random

Hope Hull, AL is beautiful, Loaf's kids are rad and there is no substitute for time spent with someone you don't get to see nearly often enough. Thanks again for hosting me, had a blast. When I was a kid I used to drool over the magazine and comic racks at our local grocery store and pharmacy. Sometimes my Mom would give in to my pleas and let me take home a comic or a magazine with pull out posters or hot rods or an upcoming film. The one thing I really wanted that she would never give in on was Mad Magazine.
One summer on our annual pilgrimage to the beach, I stretched out in the way-back of the family Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. I had a Walkman on and a couple of books to get me through the trip. I don't think we were even out of the neighborhood when Mom tossed the latest issue of Mad back to me. I remember the moment very clearly. Man, I was stoked!
I read through the issue several times through on that trip. Even though some of the jokes and humor were over my head at the time, I was hooked on the satire, the irreverence and the healthy disrespect of authority. After that first issue, I became a loyal reader buying and keeping every issue for years and years to come.
The summer after I graduated high school I was cleaning things out of my room in preparation to move into a place of my own. At some point in my teenage years, the humor rag became less important than gas money and entertaining girls and I had stopped reading. When I came to my stack of back issues I skimmed a few covers before tossing them all into a garbage bag. Man, to have those issues back now...
In college I got my hands on 7 CDs containing every issue from '52 to '98. This covered my time as a loyal reader and more. I had checked in on the magazine a few times here and there since we parted ways. In 2001, disappointingly they started to run real advertising previously only running parody ads. I felt that this cheapened things a bit and was a slap in the face from one of my biggest influences to question authority and rebel against the establishment.
I guess it is true what they say, nothing is sacred. All the same, last week I was feeling nostalgic and looked into the CDs and found that first issue, one of several covers featuring Hulk Hogan. I started to read it and then figured I shouldn't shortchange myself of the real experience so I got on ebay and ordered myself an original. It came earlier this week.
Its funny, the things you can remember. There is a familiar off-white that the pages always had and the distinct smell still lingered. I remembered the articles and even specifics such as the gag in the Spy vs Sky cartoon and the fold-in on the inner back cover. I could recall the answer without having to fold it.
As we get older, and experience more we lose the joy that can come with firsts. Nothing could replicate how I felt the first time I read Mad but having this was an amazing nostalgic throwback to a time in my life that was easier...simpler. Even though I paid more than double the $1.35 cover price, the feeling I get thumbing through this issue is something you just can't put a price on.
Scotty O'Hotty Beer-Bacon Chipotle- So this one is every bit as great as it sounds. I won't even tell you what is on the ingredient list but trust me, it is nothing short of incredible. Six peppers and a bunch of other awesomeness in the mix, that's all I'm saying. Slightly smoky with a fantastic texture, the flavor is solid but allows a little heat to shine. It is gentle and not overpowering just giving your taste buds a little kick in the ass. Great sauce, definitely better than other bacon sauces I have tried.
Special thanks to the guys over at MHT for giving me a bottle of Scotty's Premium Habanero Sauce to review that led to Scotty himself reaching out and sending me a couple of his other creations to try.
Thanks Scotty, much appreciated! Keep up the good work!
So the plan for last weekend was two nights of camping at Noccalula Falls with another family that also has two girls. The first night was great, the facility was awesome and super kid friendly. We pitched the tents, made a fire, cooked burgers and made smores. All in all, it was a pretty great first camping experience for our kids.
Unfortunately two approaching storm systems would have made for a full day of rain and in the interest of not keeping four kids inside a tent all day we broke camp and headed home. We did decide to keep the weekend with our friends going and instead spent Saturday at their house.
Some time ago my buddy Jason bought the KZ650 that had been sitting in my garage. Since we had a cooler full of cold beer and a non-running bike that needed attention, our plans were pretty clear. He had already taken the carbs apart and started cleaning them. We used our time reassembling and adjusting them. Once we got everything together again the bike fired up first kick. They needed more adjustment but I was able to take the bike down the road before the day was out. There is still work needed to get the beast road worthy. I'm sure I'll see another day in his garage before all is said and done. Dat'l Do-It Desert Heat Chipotle-I was pretty surprised at the consistency of this sauce. It was thinner than some other chipotle sauces I have tried. The namesake pepper is also down on the list after two varieties of habaneros, which was a little surprise as I was not expecting it to be so hot. The overall flavor was good, award winning says the label. When I used it the flavor seemed to disappear so I had to use A LOT of it notice it. All in all a good sauce, just wish the flavor was stronger.

JBMFThttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15700360014302536945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1984100002006084035.post-32582883729146052392014-05-15T06:00:00.000-05:002014-05-15T06:00:06.089-05:00Getting Jerked Around

So I've been getting more than my fair share of this garbage lately. I can only take so much. Uncle CC's Teriyaki-ok, the extra picture on the right is with good reason. I opened this bottle Monday at lunch and took these photos Thursday after dinner. In case you can't tell, I really like this sauce. I don't know what or how many calories are in it. I do know you can count the ingredient list using less than all of your fingers. If I had one thing I would add it would be a little more of the teriyaki flavor. Another excellent offering from a local hot sauce start-up.
