Hot Sauce of the Week

Beast Feast Maine Boot Leg 9.9-I swear, I don't know how they do it but the hits just keep coming. If I were stranded on a desert island and could only have one thing to put on my fish, fowl, etc you can bet good money if would be a selection out of Beast Feast's stable. Not unlike an extra spicy BBQ sauce, Boot Leg 9.9 has a distinct smoke flavor that really sets it apart. This bottle has been open just 4 days and it has maybe one more meal left in it. Outstanding stuff. No nutritional info available. You can order this sauce from Beast Feast here. Seriously, if you read this blog and the hot sauce reviews and you haven't tried their sauces yet, you are missing out on some excellent stuff.

Hot Sauce of the Week

Beast Feast Maine Scorpion Punch-Beast Feast's sauces never disappoint and I always like something different. There are tropical flavors at play here, pineapple and lime give a very distinct taste. That said, this sauce works best as the star of the show, not an addition. Think  of it as a topping for your chicken or pork, I had to use a ton to taste it on dishes that already had strong flavors. Beast Feast is great at taking you right to limits of comfortable heat and not pushing too far. I was surprised how far down the list the scorpion pepper was for the amount of heat it produced. I guess that is how you roll when you make a sauce with the hottest pepper in the world. Nutritional information unavailable.

Seriously, if you are into hot sauces and you haven't tried anything from Beast Feast yet you are missing out. I implore you to try them. One bottle will make you a believer. Get Scorpion Punch here.

Hot Sauce of the Week

Beast Feast Main Lobster Hot Sauce-Beast Feast Maine has done it again! Don't let the title mislead you, there isn't lobster in the sauce but it is an excellent compliment to seafood and (obviously) lobster. I took this bad boy to the beach with me and I will say that it works as promised. I talk a lot about how I like sauces that are different. Tell me how often you've seen Maine Seaweed, butter and Grains of Paradise on an ingredient list. This one starts right for seafood with a lemon taste and a buttery finish complemented with spice. With jalapeno and habanero, it is exacting but not overpowering and lingers just until the next bite. Seriously, if you live on the coast or consume a lot of seafood, get a bottle now. This stuff is great and you better believe this one is coming along to every future visit to The Fish Market.
On another note, last week's post was right on time talking about how fortunate I was and how rad and thoughtful my friends and family are. Seriously, awesome stuff.
As mentioned, Davis came through with a jar of what he calls "In Case of  Emergency: Zombie Apocalypse Hot Sauce" and a smaller Tupperware container full of Smokin' Davis' Mark II. He also included some excellent salsa that didn't survive to be photographed. These sauces are going to wait until next month. Why you ask? Stay tuned!
My wife went away for a couple days for a conference and came home bearing the two little sample sauces. She's pretty awesome.
And last but far from least, Pooter Girl came through with a grip of goodies that included some Way Better Sweet Chili Tortilla Chips and a new hot sauce for yours truly. The chips did not survive for a photo but I can attest that they went great with the aforementioned salsa. You rock Pooter, many thanks.

Hot Sauce of the Week

Instead of a review this week, I wanted to give shout outs to a couple people who sent sauces my way recently. The folks at Beast Feast Maine got wind of my review of their Chad's Obsession sauce from my buddy Quiet Wyatt. Apparently they liked it and reached out to me to send some other sauces to try as well as a few more bottles of Chad's Obsession. I really appreciate your support and appreciate the sauces. I am looking forward to tearing into them.
When Russ and Nate from MHT were in town for the Barber Vintage Festival they came bearing gifts of hot sauce from Detroit. It was good finally meeting these guys face to face and kicking around with them over the weekend. Thanks for the sauces boys.
Finally, my buddy Smokin' Davis (aka Davis Strangelove) informed me yesterday that he is coming tonight with a handful of homebrewed sauces and spicy surprises. So this is a preemptive thanks. I am looking forward to getting my hot sauce on tonight something proper.

There are others not listed above who have sent sauces before and you know who you are. I truly appreciate your friendship and that you thought about me on the trips, vacations, etc that you were on to grab something for me and send it my way. I am a lucky man in the friend department, thanks for being awesome.

Hot Sauce-The Empties

The hot sauce shelf in the kitchen is getting full so it is time to put some of the (almost) empty bottles out to pasture. Here's a rundown of the ones that are going and whether or not they will return.

Mad Dog Teriyaki-I would like more of this.
Cheech Mojo Mango-novel sure but no.
Tabasco Soy- again, novel but not enough to necessitate getting more.
La Costena Jalapeno-not bad but unnecessary.
Blair's Jalapeno Death Sauce with Tequila- yes, I need a big bottle of this one.
Pickapeppa Hot Pepper Sauce -hard to find, want it.
Sriracha- are you kidding? A staple.
Spice Exchange Habanero Hot Sauce- yes, this one too...need more.
Blair's Original Death-I like it but Blair's has sauces I like better.
Panola-more please, one of the best Louisiana sauces.
Louisiana Japapeno-Blair's does it much better.
Hell Fire-very unique, must have more. Chocolate in a hot sauce? Sold!
Tiger Sauce-probably my favorite, not-seriously-hot "hot" sauce.
Cholula Chili Garlic-needs more heat, regular Cholula is better.
Yum Kax Sabor Ajo Limon-good sauce, needs more hot.
Chad's Obsession-my obsession. Too bad it came from Maine. If I could get it here I would advise you to buy stock in it.

Hot Sauce of the Week

Mother's Mountain Habanero Heaven Deadly Pepper Sauce-much like the other Mother's Mountain Sauce I sampled, Fire Eater, this sauce has a mustard taste that can't be ignored. It is less pronounced but still there. That said, the other ingredients make a good blend with vinegar, salt and garlic in the mix. Habanero is the next to last ingredient. It could have been a little hotter for my tastes. I would not use this one on a regular basis but I am glad to have it in the arsenal. Examples like this one prove that there is a sauce for everyone.

Hot Sauce of the Week

Beast Feast Maine Chad's Obsession-easily one of the best sauces I've ever had. Packs an excellent sweet taste and plenty of heat, kind of like Tiger Sauce's bigger, stronger brother. With a killer ingredient list and four peppers in the mix, it is little wonder that the outcome is awesome. I've said it before, if you can see big bits of ingredients, you can almost guarantee it will be good. I opened this bad boy Tuesday and it is more than halfway gone. Seriously, this stuff is great.
