The hot sauce shelf in the kitchen is getting full so it is time to put some of the (almost) empty bottles out to pasture. Here's a rundown of the ones that are going and whether or not they will return.
Mad Dog Teriyaki-I would like more of this.
Cheech Mojo Mango-novel sure but no.
Tabasco Soy- again, novel but not enough to necessitate getting more.
La Costena Jalapeno-not bad but unnecessary.
Blair's Jalapeno Death Sauce with Tequila- yes, I need a big bottle of this one.
Pickapeppa Hot Pepper Sauce -hard to find, want it.
Sriracha- are you kidding? A staple.
Spice Exchange Habanero Hot Sauce- yes, this one too...need more.
Blair's Original Death-I like it but Blair's has sauces I like better.
Panola-more please, one of the best Louisiana sauces.
Louisiana Japapeno-Blair's does it much better.
Hell Fire-very unique, must have more. Chocolate in a hot sauce? Sold!
Tiger Sauce-probably my favorite, not-seriously-hot "hot" sauce.
Cholula Chili Garlic-needs more heat, regular Cholula is better.
Yum Kax Sabor Ajo Limon-good sauce, needs more hot.
Chad's Obsession-my obsession. Too bad it came from Maine. If I could get it here I would advise you to buy stock in it.

Hot Sauce of the Week
La Anita Extra Hot Pepper Sauce-I love recipes that read something like "water, habanero, spices, various chemicals." Spices...could you be more vague? I understand the desire for secrecy in recipes but come on already. When I make my own sauce, the ingredient label will read: "stuff to make a delicious hot sauce." Moving on, this one is fairly serious. That said it is pretty spicy and I may be getting a little immune thanks to the ghost pepper sauces that have come across the plate lately. The flavor is good too taking a back seat to the heat. I like this one, it likely wont last long. Made in Mexico.

Hot Sauce of the Week
La Anita Chile Habanero Hot Pepper Sauce-this sauce has a killer red color and excellent heat and flavor. Another of the sauces I grabbed on my trip to Mexico, it tastes authentic. I've enjoyed it on nachos and eggs this week and found it to be a good addition without being too overpowering. If you like habanero sauces, try to get your hands on this one.

Hot Sauce of the Week
La Anita Chile Habanero Hot Pepper Sauce-there is just something about Mexican sauces that look like alien blood that I just dig. The habanero heat is fo' real on this one but the overall flavor is a little lacking. I wish there was something more to accompany the punch. Don't get me wrong, its a good sauce and I've enjoyed it, as you can see from the half empty bottle, it just left me wanting for something more.

Hot Sauce of the Week
La Anita Roasted Habanero Peppers Sauce-again, this is flavor and spice I was hoping for from a Mexican sauce. Not much to say, it's plenty hot and tastes awesome. Get some.

Hot Sauce of the Week
Chimay-Now this is what I expected from a Mexican sauce. Right out of the gate, the spice is sharp and precise and has a steady burn. Outside of the habanero, there is vinegar, salt and olive oil. Its a pretty standard hot sauce recipe but done very well with a good pepper. What I can gather from my broken Spanish, the yellow variety of Chimay is the hottest. Wish I could have gotten a bottle of that one too...maybe on the next trip across the border.

Hot Sauce of the Week
Yum Kax Sabor Ajo Limon-couldn't begin to tell you what is in this tasty little SOB but man it was good. Should have bought a bigger bottle, this one lasted one whole meal. I was expecting it to be a little spicier but the flavor was awesome. It is different, lemon and garlic with a vinegar base, but thoroughly enjoyable.

Happenings, Hot Sauce and Otherwise
Yep, so I'm a loser and I left you hanging on the HSOW last Friday. For that, I am sorry. That being said, I was on vacation with the wife in Mexico so I didn't lose too much sleep about it...
As a result of that trip I now have no less that 6 imported sauces to add to the hopper. There were plenty to choose from and I hope that did a good job of selecting some solid local flavor and not just some touristy garbage. That said, cold beer was $1 on the street and shots were $2.50 so who knows what I really got. We will return to your regularly scheduled HSOW programming next Friday.
In other news, my homie Nick needs some parts to get his '67 Shovel back where it needs to be. If you have any of this stuff, holler at either of us.
1)James gasket set
2)rear brake shoes
3)rear brake springs
4)one 41mm tube and new seals
5)rear chain
6)clutch cable
7)shocks
8)shift arm

Hot Sauce of the Week
El Yucateco Verde- more of the same habanero heat with a hard to describe taste that matches the otherworldly color. If you are looking for something spicy and out of the ordinary, seek it out.

Hot Sauce of the Week
El Yucateco Rojo- instant heat and flavor, this one means business. The habanero is not for the faint of heart but if you like it hot, get yourself a bottle of this one. Its a winner.

Hot Sauce of the Week
La Costena- thick sauce with a dark flavor and subtle spice. When I taste this one, I think of enchiladas. It would also be at home mixed into salsa or bean dip.

Hot Sauce of the Week
Valentina-kind of the Trappey's Bull of Mexican hot sauces: low heat, good flavor and safe. Cheap as they come, this liter bottle was under $2.00!
And in case you didn't see it, Giveaway #2 is up here.

Hot Sauce of the Week
Cholula- this has become the standard at Mexican restaurants in Birmingham. The taste is immediate and unique and there is just enough heat to let you know it is there but it isn't overpowering. A perfect complement to a range of dishes if you want to add some spice, I'm glad I have the big bottle.
